Chimney Crown Repair & Rebuild

The crown is your chimney's first defense against water. A cracked or failing crown lets water into the flue and masonry with every rainfall — here's how we fix it before it becomes a full rebuild.

Why It Matters

Why Chimney Crown Repair Matters

Stop Water at the Source

The crown sheds water away from your flue and masonry. A cracked crown sends water straight down into the chimney structure with every storm.

Catch It Before It's a Rebuild

A $300-600 crack repair today is a $2,000+ full crown rebuild in three NJ winters if the water keeps getting in.

Protect the Whole Structure

Crown damage doesn't stay contained — it spreads into the flue liner, the smoke chamber, and the brick below.

Built to Last NJ Winters

We rebuild crowns with proper slope and overhang so water sheds away from the masonry, not into it.

What We Offer

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my chimney crown needs repair?

Look for cracks, chipped edges, or white staining (efflorescence) on the brick just below the crown. If you can see daylight through a crack or the crown feels soft or crumbly, it needs attention now, not next season.

Can a cracked crown really cause that much damage?

Yes. Water entering through a crown crack travels down through the flue liner and masonry, often causing damage you won't notice until it reaches the ceiling or firebox.

Do you repair or replace the crown?

It depends on the damage. Minor cracks get sealed with a flexible waterproof coating. Crowns with major cracking, poor slope, or structural failure get fully removed and rebuilt with proper drainage.

How long does a crown rebuild take?

A standard crown rebuild takes about a day for most residential chimneys, weather permitting. We won't pour concrete in freezing or wet conditions since it affects the cure.

Does crown repair fix a leaking chimney?

In most cases, yes — the crown is the single most common source of chimney water leaks. We inspect the cap, flashing, and crown together since all three affect water intrusion.
